How the UK compares with other countries

27 tables ranking the UK against the G7, the EU, OECD members, NATO allies and other groups, using figures from the IMF, the OECD, the World Bank, NATO, the Bank for International Settlements and the World Health Organization. Each table gives the latest year, the UK's rank, ten years of history, how the body defines the measure and why it can differ from the UK's own figures, with the exact address each figure was read from.

How these tables are compiled

Figures are read from each international body's own data service and saved with the date and a SHA-256 fingerprint. Each table uses the latest year for which the UK and at least three-quarters of the countries in the group have a figure, so all values are for the same period. Ranks count from the highest value; countries with equal values share a rank. Averages are simple averages of the countries in the table, including the UK, not weighted by population or size.

International bodies adjust countries' figures so that they can be compared, so their UK values can differ from the ONS's. Each page explains the difference and links to the UK's own figure where this site has one. These pages give no view on whether a figure is high or low.
