About release dates

When are official statistics released?

Most official statistics in the UK are published at 9.30am on a date announced in advance on the GOV.UK release calendar. The ONS publishes its main economic releases, such as GDP, inflation and the labour market, at 7am.

Who can see official statistics before they are published?

Since July 2017, the ONS has not given ministers or officials early access to its statistics. Other producers may allow limited pre-release access, usually up to 24 hours before publication, to named people listed in each release, under the Pre-release Access to Official Statistics Order 2008 and the Code of Practice for Statistics.

What is the difference between a confirmed and a provisional release date?

A confirmed date is fixed. A provisional date shows the month or week the statistics are expected, and it is confirmed nearer the time. Any change to a confirmed date has to be announced with a reason.

Where can I find the full release calendar?

The full calendar for all departments is on GOV.UK under Research and statistics, and the ONS keeps its own release calendar on its website. Both can be filtered by topic and organisation.
