How the OECD measures it

The OECD republishes each country's consumer price index for electricity, gas and other fuels used in the home (COICOP group 04.5). The annual figure is the change in the yearly average index; the latest-month column is the 12-month change for the most recent month published. These figures measure how fast prices changed, not how high they are.

Countries compared: The OECD's 27 European member countries, including the UK and Türkiye. The table uses the latest year for which the UK and at least three-quarters of the countries the OECD covers have a figure, so every value is for the same period.

Why this differs from the UK's own figures

The ONS publishes the CPI index for electricity, gas and other fuels in its monthly consumer price inflation release, and the OECD's UK figure is that index. In Great Britain Ofgem's price cap, which limits the unit rates and standing charges of default tariffs, changes each quarter, and the UK's 12-month rate moves when the cap changes. These figures show how fast prices changed, not how high they are: no international body currently publishes household energy price levels for the UK alongside other European countries, because Eurostat's series for the UK ends in 2020.

The UK's own latest figure, with its definition and release dates: Energy price cap (typical household).
