What is the life expectancy in Morocco?

Life expectancy at birth in Morocco was 77.2 years in 2024, according to the population indicators of the High Commission for Planning (HCP), based on the 2024 General Census of Population and Housing. HCP publishes a series going back to 1952 on its life expectancy page.

Life expectancy at birth is the average number of years a newborn would live if the death rates of that year stayed the same throughout its life. It is a summary of current mortality, not a forecast. Separate figures for men and women and for urban and rural areas are available on HCP's census results site.

Basic compulsory health insurance (AMO) covered close to 90% of Morocco's population at the end of 2024, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection's national SDG 3 report for 2024. The 10.4 million former beneficiaries of the RAMED medical assistance scheme were moved to AMO TADAMON, in which the state pays contributions, and the AMO ACHAMIL scheme was opened on 1 January 2024 for people without paid work who can pay contributions.

AMO reimburses part of the cost of care in public and private facilities rather than making care free at the point of use. Framework law 06-22 of December 2022 sets out the wider reform of the national health system.
