The census asks whether each person can read and write in at least one language, so it is a self-reported measure rather than a test of reading skills. Rates differ widely by sex, age and area, with higher rates among young people and in towns. HCP's census results site gives breakdowns by region and province.

The gross ratio divides all students in universities and other higher education institutions, whatever their age, by the population in the five-year age group after secondary school. It can therefore include older students and is not the share of young people with a degree. Student numbers by university are published by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
The figure covers spending by all levels of government on all levels of education, including salaries and investment, and excludes what families pay for private schools and tutoring. The education budget is set each year in the finance law published by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The net enrolment rate in primary school in Morocco was 91.1% in 2017, and 54.3% in lower secondary (collège), according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP). These are the latest years shown on HCP's enrolment pages.
The net rate is the share of children of the official age for a level who are enrolled at that level. Children of primary age who have moved up early or are still in preschool are not counted, so the net rate is lower than the gross rate. For current pupil numbers, see the Ministry of National Education's 2024-2025 statistics.
