What is the homicide rate in Morocco?

Morocco recorded 1.7 intentional homicides per 100,000 people in 2023, according to World Bank data from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The rate was 1.66 in 2022 and 1.94 in 2021.

UNODC compiles homicide figures from national police or criminal justice data and checks them against other sources. Intentional homicide means an unlawful death inflicted on a person with intent to cause death or serious injury. It excludes deaths in armed conflict. The rate is per 100,000 residents, so it can be compared across countries with different populations.

Where can I find crime statistics for Morocco?

Morocco's recorded crime figures are published by the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN), which presents an annual review of police activity, and by the Presidency of the Public Prosecution, whose annual report covers prosecutions. Prison numbers come from the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR). The sites of all three, and of the Ministry of Justice, could not be reached on 15 October 2026, so no recorded crime or prison figures are given here.

For an internationally comparable figure, UNODC's homicide rate, republished by the World Bank, puts Morocco at 1.7 per 100,000 people in 2023. Police-recorded totals depend on what is reported and on recording practice, so they are not a direct measure of how much crime occurs.
