What is in Fiji's 2026-2027 national budget?
Fiji's 2026-2027 budget plans total expenditure of $4.87 billion and total revenue of about $3.82 billion, according to the 2026-2027 National Budget Address delivered on 26 June 2026. Tax revenue is projected at $3.3 billion, which the address says is almost $200 million lower than earlier expected because of the global fuel crisis.
The Ministry of Finance publishes the address, the budget estimates and the supplement on its budget documents page, along with a citizens' guide in English, iTaukei and Hindi. Fiji's financial year runs from August to July. Actual outturns are reported in the ministry's quarterly fiscal performance reports.
What is Fiji's budget deficit?
Fiji's fiscal deficit is set at $1 billion, or 7% of GDP, in the 2026-2027 budget, according to the Budget Address published by the Ministry of Finance. The address describes the 7% deficit as a response to the global fuel crisis, and says the deficit would have been below 5% if revenue had not fallen.
The deficit is total expenditure of $4.87 billion minus revenue of about $3.82 billion. The address sets an aim of bringing deficits down to around 3% of GDP in later years. Quarterly results against the budget are published in the ministry's fiscal performance reports.
How much debt does Fiji have?
Fiji's public debt is projected to reach about $12.6 billion by the end of July 2027, equal to 84.8% of GDP, according to the 2026-2027 Budget Address. The address says debt rose from around $4 billion in 2016 to almost $12 billion by the end of 2026, and that interest costs have doubled to almost $600 million a year.
Public debt here is central government debt; the address puts government-guaranteed debt separately at around $1.1 billion. The Ministry of Finance publishes quarterly and annual figures, split into domestic and external debt, on its debt reports page, most recently the third-quarter report for 2025-2026.
