Cauca: population, the economy and jobs

Cauca is a department of Colombia, number 11 of 33 by population. DANE projects the population of Cauca at 1,613,329 in 2026 (800,410 men and 812,919 women), 3.0% of Colombia's 53.40 million; 11th largest of the 32 departments and Bogota. The projections are based on the 2018 census and were updated in July 2025.

• Economy, jobs and prices in Cauca: Cauca's gross domestic product was 33.9 trillion pesos at current prices in 2025 (DANE preliminary figures), 1.8% of Colombia's 1,852.7 trillion pesos; 11th largest of the 32 departments and Bogota.
• Health in Cauca: 123 deaths of children under one year old whose families lived in Cauca were registered in 2025, equal to 10.5 for every 1,000 live births registered to mothers living there (11,700) (16th lowest of 33; Colombia 10.3).
