Monaco: jobs and pay
4 answers, 3 from Monaco's own official bodies, with a link to each figure.
What is the average salary in Monaco?
The average gross monthly wage in Monaco's private sector was €5,195 in 2025, and the median was €3,475, according to IMSEE, Monaco en Chiffres 2026, chapter 3, using Caisses Sociales data. The average rose 5.4% from 2024 and the median 4.1%.
The figures are gross full-time equivalent wages, before social contributions, based on the 169-hour legal working month. The median is lower than the average because a smaller number of very high wages pull the average up. One in ten private-sector employees earned less than €2,381 a month, and one in ten more than €7,830. The yearbook also breaks wages down by sector, sex and age.
How many people work in Monaco?
59,724 people were employed in Monaco's private sector in 2025, 1.2% fewer than in 2024, according to IMSEE, Monaco en Chiffres 2026, using Caisses Sociales data. Only 5,975 of them lived in Monaco. 48,021 lived in France and 4,916 in Italy.
The figure counts private-sector employees only. Civil servants and other public employees are shown separately in the same chapter. By nationality, French citizens made up 61.6% of private-sector employees and Italians 15.0%. This was the first fall in the series shown, after the number rose from 53,149 in 2021 to 60,454 in 2024.
What is the unemployment rate in Monaco?
No unemployment rate for Monaco was found in IMSEE's Monaco en Chiffres 2026 or on the IMSEE employment pages, checked on 15 October 2026. The employment chapter covers employees in the public and private sectors, hours worked, wages, temporary work, teleworking and the self-employed, but no jobless rate.
One reason is that most of Monaco's workforce lives outside the country: of 59,724 private-sector employees in 2025, only 5,975 lived in Monaco. A residence-based unemployment rate would leave out most of the people who work there. For the trend in jobs, the private-sector employee count is the main published measure.
