What is Tajikistan's GDP growth rate?
Tajikistan's economy grew 8.4% in 2025, according to the IMF World Economic Outlook of October 2026, which projects 7.3% growth in 2026 and 6.8% in 2027. The Agency on Statistics reports that its short-term indicator of key economic sectors grew 8.2% in real terms in January-June 2026, to 81.7 billion somoni.
The short-term indicator is a fast estimate built from industry, farming, construction, trade and services, not full GDP. Under the 2026 statistical work programme, the Agency says GDP will be published quarterly, 90 days after each quarter ends. IMF figures for 2026 and 2027 are forecasts.
What is Tajikistan's GDP per person?
Tajikistan's GDP per person was about $1,693 in 2025, according to the IMF World Economic Outlook of October 2026, which projects about $2,005 for 2026. The population was 10,723,500 on 1 January 2026, according to the Agency on Statistics.
The IMF figure converts GDP into US dollars at market exchange rates, so it moves with the somoni as well as with output. Figures adjusted for price differences between countries (purchasing power parity) are higher, because goods and services cost less in Tajikistan than in richer economies. Values for 2026 are estimates.
What is the inflation rate in Tajikistan?
Consumer prices in Tajikistan were 4.1% higher in August 2026 than a year earlier, according to the National Bank of Tajikistan and the Agency on Statistics. Prices rose 0.1% on the month and 2.7% since December 2025.
The National Bank targets inflation of 5%, with a band of 2 percentage points either side, so the August rate is within its range. Food prices were 4.4% higher and services 5.8% higher than a year before. Average inflation for 2025 was 3.5%, according to the Agency's home page. The IMF projects 4.1% for 2026.
What is the National Bank of Tajikistan's refinancing rate?
The National Bank of Tajikistan's refinancing rate is 7.00%, in force since 2 February 2026, according to the bank's website on 15 October 2026. Its next rate meeting is on 29 October 2026.
The refinancing rate is the bank's main policy rate, at which it lends to commercial banks, and it influences loan and deposit rates in somoni. The bank sets it to keep inflation near its 5% target (with a band of 2 points either side). Annual inflation was 4.1% in August 2026. The bank also publishes the official exchange rate of the somoni each day.
How important are remittances to Tajikistan's economy?
Money sent home by people working abroad equalled 57.7% of Tajikistan's GDP in 2025, up from 47.2% in 2024 and 37.8% in 2023, according to the World Bank.
Personal remittances include wages of workers who live abroad for less than a year and transfers from migrants who have settled abroad. The ratio can rise because more money arrives, because the somoni weakens, or because GDP grows more slowly. The World Bank estimates rely on central bank balance of payments data and may be revised.
