What share of people in Tajikistan live in poverty?

19.8% of people in Tajikistan lived below the national poverty line in 2024, down from 20.4% in 2023 and 21.7% in 2022, according to the World Bank, which publishes the national estimate.

The national poverty line is the cost of a basic basket of food and non-food items set by the government, so the figure cannot be compared directly with other countries' lines. Household surveys behind it are run by the Agency on Statistics. Remittances from relatives working abroad, equal to 57.7% of GDP in 2025, are a large part of many households' income.
