What is Liechtenstein's GDP per capita?

Liechtenstein's GDP was USD 8.9 billion in 2024, or USD 220,250 per head, according to the Government of Liechtenstein's Wirtschafts- und Finanzdaten 2026 (data as of end June 2026). Gross national income per head was USD 194,738 in 2023.

GDP per head is high partly because about 25,000 people commute into Liechtenstein for work: in 2025 there were more people employed in the country (43,330) than living in it (41,237). Their output counts in GDP, but much of their pay flows abroad, which is why the brochure shows GNI per head below GDP per head. Both figures are estimates from the Office of Statistics' national accounts, which are published with a lag of about two years.

How fast is Liechtenstein's economy growing?

Real GDP grew by about 5% in 2024 (nominal growth about 6%), according to the Office of Statistics' GDP estimate cited in the Government's Wirtschafts- und Finanzdaten 2026. For 2025, the Liechtenstein-Institut's estimate in the same brochure puts real growth at around −3%, which it links to the introduction of US tariffs.

The 2025 figure is a forecast-style estimate, not an official national accounts result. The official GDP for a year is first published by the Office of Statistics about two years later. Since 1972 real growth has averaged 3.3% a year, with sharp swings: real GDP fell by about 5% in 2020.

What does Liechtenstein export?

Liechtenstein's direct goods exports were CHF 2.88 billion in 2025, down 6.5% in real terms on 2024, according to the Government's Wirtschafts- und Finanzdaten 2026, using data from the Swiss customs office (BAZG). Goods imports fell 2.1% to CHF 1.47 billion.

These customs figures leave out trade with Switzerland, which shares a customs area with Liechtenstein, and no full figures exist for trade in services. The brochure therefore also uses foreign sales of members of the Liechtenstein chamber of industry and commerce (LIHK): CHF 7.8 billion in 2025, of which CHF 1.0 billion was in Switzerland. On that basis it estimates the real export share of GDP at about 45%. The trade breakdown by partner and product group is in the same publication.

What is the interest rate in Liechtenstein?

The SNB policy rate was 0.00% on 15 October 2026, as shown on the Swiss National Bank's website. Liechtenstein has no central bank of its own: the Swiss franc is its legal tender, and the Government's Wirtschafts- und Finanzdaten 2026 notes that its interest rates follow those of the shared currency area with Switzerland.

The same brochure lists short-term rates on current accounts at 0.0% in 2025 and long-term rates on 8 to 10 year medium-term notes at 0.5%. Lending and deposit rates offered to customers are set by the individual banks.
