What is the unemployment rate in Greece?

Greece's unemployment rate was 7.4% in August 2026, seasonally adjusted, down from 8.8% in August 2025 and 7.9% in July 2026, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). 350,800 people were unemployed and 4,410,105 employed.

The rate follows the International Labour Organization definition: people without work who are looking for and available for a job. Monthly estimates are revised, and ELSTAT notes that employment in Greece normally rises in summer because of tourism, which seasonal adjustment removes. In August 2025 the rate was 8.8%; in August 2021 it was 14.1%.

What is youth unemployment in Greece?

Unemployment among people aged 15 to 24 in Greece was 15.6% in August 2026, down from 21.8% in August 2025, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). It was 33.0% in August 2021.

The youth rate is the share of young people in the labour force (working or looking for work) who are unemployed, not the share of all young people; many are in education. Because the group is small, monthly figures move a lot. Eurostat shows 15.6% for people under 25 in August 2026, seasonally adjusted.

What is the minimum wage in Greece?

Eurostat spreads the yearly total over 12 months so that countries can be compared. In countries where workers receive more than 12 monthly payments a year, such as Greece with its holiday and Christmas bonuses, the rate set in national law is lower than the Eurostat figure.
