Gabon: education

4 answers, 1 from Gabon's own official bodies, with a link to each figure.

What is the literacy rate in Gabon?

88.9% of adults aged 15 and over in Gabon could read and write in 2021, according to the World Bank, which publishes UNESCO data. The previous figure, from 1993, was 72.2%.

Literacy rates come from household surveys and censuses, in which people are asked whether they can read and write or are tested on a simple sentence. The long gap between the two data points means the series shows the overall trend rather than year-to-year change. The Ministry of National Education's website could not be reached on 15 October 2026, so results of the baccalauréat and BEPC exams could not be read from an official page.
