What is the population of Argentina?
Argentina's projected population is 46,466,688 on 1 July 2026, according to the headline figure on INDEC's homepage, from its national population projections. The projections are based on the 2022 National Population, Households and Housing Census.
Projections are estimates carried forward from the last census using assumptions on births, deaths and migration, not a new count. The World Bank's figure for Argentina, 45,851,378 in 2025 (World Bank population data), comes from UN estimates and is lower, so state which source you use. INDEC's projection tables give totals by sex and age for each year to 2040.
Where can I find official results of Argentina's elections?
In the general election for national deputies held in October 2025, 24,263,248 of 35,981,358 registered voters took part, a turnout of 67.43%, according to the provisional count published by the National Electoral Directorate on its election results site (national totals from its results API). Blank votes were 2.74% and null votes 2.46%.
National deputies and senators are elected by province, with different party alliances in each, so there is no single national party share; the results site gives each district's lists. The provisional count (escrutinio provisorio) is published on election night; the definitive count is carried out by the national electoral courts under the National Electoral Chamber. The resulting party blocs are listed by the Chamber of Deputies.
How much is Argentina's government debt?
Argentina's central administration gross debt was US$474.2 billion on 30 June 2026, equal to 71.4% of GDP, according to the Finance Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy's quarterly public debt tables. At the end of 2025 the ratio was 78.1% of GDP.
The figures cover the national central administration only, not provinces or the Central Bank,. About 52% of the total was in foreign currency at the end of June. Because most debt is in dollars or indexed to inflation, the ratio to GDP moves sharply with the exchange rate. The tables are on the quarterly debt data page.
What are the income tax rates in Argentina?
Argentina's personal income tax rates and the scale of brackets are set in the Income Tax Law (Impuesto a las Ganancias) and published, with the amounts updated during the year, by the tax and customs agency ARCA on its income tax pages. The rate table could not be read from ARCA's site for this page, so check the current figures there.
Changes to the law are published in the Boletín Oficial, and consolidated texts are on InfoLEG. Employees have tax withheld monthly by their employer, after personal deductions set out on ARCA's deductions page. Because amounts are adjusted for inflation, a bracket quoted in pesos is only valid for the period stated.
What is the average salary in Argentina?
The average taxable pay of stable registered workers (RIPTE) was 1,982,518.19 pesos a month in August 2026, up 1.9% on July, according to the Social Security Undersecretariat's RIPTE series. INDEC's wage index rose 2.8% in July 2026 and 36.2% in the year to July, with registered private-sector pay up 2.3% in the month.
RIPTE covers only workers contributing to the national pension system and is an average, which is pulled up by high earners. INDEC's index measures changes, not levels, and includes an estimate for unregistered workers, whose wages rose fastest. To judge whether pay is keeping up with prices, compare the same months: annual consumer inflation was 33.8% in July 2026, according to INDEC.
What is the peso to dollar exchange rate?
The Central Bank of Argentina's wholesale reference exchange rate (Communication A 3500) was 1,515.85 pesos per US dollar on 13 October 2026, and the average retail selling rate was 1,535.57 pesos, according to the BCRA statistics API (series 5 and 4). Both appear on the Bank's main indicators page.
The wholesale rate is the reference for the foreign exchange market between banks; retail rates are what banks charge customers and include a margin. The main indicators page also lists the upper and lower limits of the exchange rate band regime. Rates quoted in the press for other market segments are not published by the BCRA, so check which rate a figure refers to.
What is Argentina's GDP growth rate?
Argentina's GDP fell 0.6% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter, seasonally adjusted, and was 2.0% higher than a year earlier, according to INDEC's preliminary activity report of 17 September 2026. Private consumption fell 2.4% on the quarter, while exports rose 2.5%.
The quarterly change uses seasonally adjusted data; the annual change compares unadjusted figures for the same quarter. INDEC also publishes a monthly activity estimator (EMAE), which gives an earlier signal and is revised as fuller data arrive. GDP figures are in pesos at 2004 prices. The series and tables are on INDEC's GDP page.
What is the inflation rate in Argentina?
Consumer prices in Argentina rose 33.4% in the year to September 2026 and 1.9% in September, according to INDEC's consumer price index (IPC) report published on 13 October 2026. Prices were 23.6% higher than in December 2025. The annual rate was 33.5% in August and 31.3% in October 2025.
The IPC covers all households in the country, with results for six regions. INDEC also separates core inflation from seasonal and regulated prices, which can move differently. Monthly rates compound, so a steady 1.9% a month is about 25% over a year. The full series is on INDEC's IPC page.
What is the interest rate in Argentina?
The BADLAR rate paid by private banks on large 30-day deposits was 22.69% a year (nominal) on 9 October 2026, and the TAMAR rate 24.06%, according to the BCRA statistics API. The Central Bank's series for its monetary policy rate has no value after 10 July 2025, when it stood at 29.0%.
Rates in Argentina are usually quoted as nominal annual rates (n.a.); the BCRA also publishes effective annual rates (e.a.), which are higher because interest compounds. With annual inflation of 33.4% in September 2026, these deposit rates are below inflation. BADLAR and TAMAR are reference rates used in loans and bonds. The Bank's main indicators page lists the latest values.
What is the minimum wage in Argentina?
Argentina's minimum wage (Salario Mínimo, Vital y Móvil) is 391,200 pesos a month for full-time workers from 1 October 2026, or 1,956 pesos an hour, according to Resolution 4/2026 of the National Council for Employment, Productivity and the Minimum Wage, published in the Boletín Oficial on 2 September 2026. It rises each month, to 398,800 pesos in November, 406,400 in December and 437,000 from 1 April 2027.
The council brings together representatives of workers, employers, the national government and the provinces. The minimum applies to private-sector workers, rural workers and national public administration staff, and excludes family allowances. Pay agreed in sector collective agreements is often higher.
What is the poverty rate in Argentina?
In the first half of 2026, 32.3% of people in Argentina's 31 main urban areas lived below the poverty line, and 7.5% below the indigence (extreme poverty) line, according to INDEC's poverty report of 24 September 2026. That is 9.7 million people in poverty, up 4.1 points from the second half of 2025.
INDEC measures poverty by income: a household is poor if its income does not cover the basic total basket (CBT) of food and other goods and services, and indigent if it does not cover the basic food basket. The survey (EPH) covers about 30 million people in urban areas, not the whole country. INDEC reported no significant change compared with the first half of 2025. Results are published twice a year on INDEC's poverty page.
What is the unemployment rate in Argentina?
Argentina's unemployment rate was 7.9% in the second quarter of 2026, according to INDEC's labour market report of 17 September 2026, based on the Permanent Household Survey (EPH) in 31 urban areas. The activity rate was 48.9% and the employment rate 45.0%. INDEC reported no significant change in unemployment from a year earlier.
Labour informality was 45.0% of employed people, up 1.0 point on a year earlier, so the unemployment rate is best read alongside informality. The EPH covers urban areas only. Unemployed people are those with no work who are available and actively looking. Figures are quarterly; the series is on INDEC's labour market page.
What is life expectancy in Argentina?
Life expectancy at birth in Argentina was 77.5 years in 2024, according to the World Bank's life expectancy indicator (read through the World Bank API, updated 8 October 2026).
The World Bank figure is a modelled estimate drawn mainly from the UN Population Division. INDEC publishes projected demographic indicators in its national population projections, and the Ministry of Health's statistics office (DEIS) publishes vital statistics on registered births and deaths. Life expectancy at birth summarises death rates in a given year; it is not a forecast of how long a baby born that year will live. Women's life expectancy is higher than men's, so check whether a figure is for both sexes.
What is the birth rate in Argentina?
Argentina's fertility rate was 1.50 births per woman in 2024 and its crude birth rate 11.1 births per 1,000 people, according to the World Bank's World Development Indicators (fertility rate, read through the World Bank API, updated 8 October 2026).
A fertility rate below about 2.1 means each generation is smaller than the last without migration. National counts of registered births are published by the Ministry of Health's statistics office (DEIS), most recently for 2024. The World Bank figures are modelled from national and UN data, so they may differ slightly from national counts. Check the year, as birth statistics are published with a delay.
What is the crime rate in Argentina?
Argentina recorded 4.5 intentional homicides per 100,000 people in 2023, according to the World Bank's intentional homicides indicator, which is based on UN Office on Drugs and Crime data (read through the World Bank API).
Within Argentina, the National Ministry of Security publishes criminal statistics from its National Criminal Information System (SNIC), which collects crimes recorded by police and federal forces and other official bodies that receive reports. Police records count only crimes that are reported, so they understate crimes such as theft. Homicide counts are the most comparable between countries, but check the year and the source before comparing provinces or countries.
