What is the average household size in Myanmar?
The mean household size was 3.8 people in the 2024 Population and Housing Census, according to Table 1.3 of the Handbook on Human Resources Development Indicators 2024-2025. It ranged from 3.3 in Chin State to 4.5 in Kachin State; Yangon Region had 3.7.
The table gives a census population of 51,375,327 and a density of 76 people per square kilometre. The handbook notes elsewhere that census results on labour use only the 32.2 million people who were actually counted, so check which population base a figure uses.
What share of homes in Myanmar have improved sanitation?
92.3% of households had improved sanitation facilities in the 2024 Population and Housing Census, up from 91.4% in the 2019 inter-censal survey, according to Table 3.1 of the Handbook on Human Resources Development Indicators 2024-2025. Health Management Information System figures show 89.8% of households with an improved water supply in 2024-25.
The water and fly-proof latrine figures come from the Department of Public Health's administrative system, while the sanitation figure comes from the census, so the two are not measured the same way.
How much do houses cost in Myanmar?
No official house price or rent index was found on the websites of the Central Statistical Organization or the Central Bank of Myanmar when checked on 15 October 2026, and the Ministry of Construction website did not respond.
Housing costs enter the CSO consumer price index under housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, which has a weight of 8.07% in the 2012-based index shown on the CSO's National Summary Data Page, but no separate rent series is published online. Census figures on dwelling type and tenure are released by the Department of Population.
