282 people were murdered in Israel in 2024, 6.0% fewer than the 300 victims in 2023, according to Israel Police data in the Central Bureau of Statistics booklet Israel in Figures 2025.
With a population of about 10.1 million at the end of 2024, that is roughly 2.8 murders per 100,000 residents. The figure is a police count of murder victims. Annual totals are small enough to move noticeably from one year to the next, so trends are best read over several years.
What is the crime rate in Israel?
The Israel Police opened 287,400 criminal investigation files in 2024, down from 302,300 in 2023, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics booklet Israel in Figures 2025. Crimes against property made up 42.5%, crimes against public order 40.5% and crimes causing bodily harm 20.6%.
Files opened count reported and recorded incidents, so they depend on reporting and policing as well as on crime. The CBS Crime Victimization Survey found 944,900 people, 15.0% of those aged 20 and over, were victims of an offence in 2024, and 18.7% of victims reported it to the police at least once.

17.3% were concerned about being victims of crime or violence in their neighbourhood, and 33.6% were concerned about terror incidents there. The survey asks a sample of residents directly, so it captures crime that is never reported to the police, and the answers are counted as agreement to a very great or great extent.
How many people are convicted in Israeli courts?
25,600 people were judged in criminal trials in Israel in 2023, and 89.8% of them were convicted, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics booklet Israel in Figures 2025. Criminal files were opened for 5,405 minors aged 12 to 18 in 2023/24, down from 5,615 the year before.
The conviction share is of those whose trials ended, and many cases end in plea agreements. The Judicial Authority publishes court activity reports, and general government spending on public order was NIS 30.2 billion in 2024, 3.4% of total spending, according to the same booklet.
