Bank Indonesia: policy rate, rupiah and SEKI statistics

Bank Indonesia is Indonesia's central bank. It sets the BI-Rate, publishes the daily JISDOR dollar reference rate, and compiles the balance of payments, external debt, money and banking statistics. Its monthly Indonesian Financial Statistics (SEKI) tables also republish national accounts, prices and government finance data from other agencies, which makes it a reliable route to many official figures.

When it publishes

The Board of Governors meets monthly, usually over two days, and announces the BI-Rate in the afternoon of the second day. JISDOR is published every business day. SEKI is updated monthly; external debt is quarterly.

How to use it to check a claim

  1. Quote the BI-Rate with the date of the decision.
  2. Use JISDOR for official reference rates on a given day; market rates differ during the day.
  3. For debt, distinguish external debt (owed to non-residents) from total government debt.
  4. When using SEKI, note which agency the table credits as its source.
