What is Grenada's debt to GDP ratio?

Grenada's public sector debt was EC$2,835.9 million at the end of 2025, equal to 73.4% of GDP, down from 75.1% a year earlier, according to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank's Economic and Financial Review (2025 update) for Grenada, using Ministry of Finance data. Domestic debt was about 22.8% of GDP and external debt 50.7%.

The ratio fell because of debt repayments and nominal GDP growth. The total includes the debt of PetroCaribe, a public-private entity. The Eastern Caribbean currency union has a regional target of 60% of GDP, which the bank projects Grenada will reach by 2035. It forecasts the ratio at 74.0% in 2026 and 2027.

Grenada's government ran an overall deficit of EC$200.4 million in 2025, equal to 5.2% of GDP, after a surplus of 9.1% of GDP in 2024, according to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank's Economic and Financial Review (2025 update) for Grenada. The swing came from higher capital spending, at 13.0% of GDP, and lower revenue from citizenship by investment (CBI), which fell to 5.0% of GDP from 15.2% in 2024, when a backlog of applications was cleared. Tax revenue was 24.3% of GDP. The bank says the deficit was financed from the government's own savings, and forecasts a primary surplus of 1.6% of GDP in 2027.
