Finland's GDP grew by 0.3% in the second quarter of 2026 from the previous quarter, seasonally adjusted, according to the key figures on Statistics Finland's quarterly national accounts page. The first release on 28 August 2026 put growth at 0.4%; the key figure has since been revised. For the full year 2025, Statistics Finland reports preliminary growth of 0.8%.
In its August release, Statistics Finland said demand was boosted mainly by exports, which rose 5.7% in volume, and private investment, while public investment fell 35.3% because no fighter aircraft deliveries were recorded in the quarter. Quarterly figures are revised as more data arrive, and annual figures are revised again each summer.
What is the inflation rate in Finland?
Inflation was 2.5% in September 2026, up from 2.2% in August, according to Statistics Finland. Consumer prices rose 0.7% from August to September. Petrol, diesel and heating oils did most to push prices up over the year, while cheaper electricity and owner-occupied flats held the rate down.
This is the national consumer price index. On the harmonised EU measure (HICP), Finland's preliminary rate for September was 2.7%, against 3.8% in the euro area. Core inflation, which leaves out food and energy, was 1.5%. Statistics Finland publishes the index monthly, usually in the middle of the following month.
What is the interest rate in Finland?
Finland uses the euro, so its policy rates are set by the European Central Bank. The ECB deposit facility rate has been 2.50% since 16 September 2026, the main refinancing rate 2.65% and the marginal lending rate 2.90%, according to the ECB's table of key interest rates. The rates were raised by 0.25 points in June 2026 and again in September, after a year at 2.00% on the deposit rate.
The deposit facility rate is the one the ECB uses to steer policy. The Bank of Finland is part of the Eurosystem and its governor sits on the ECB Governing Council.
What is the economic forecast for Finland?
The Bank of Finland expects GDP to grow by 1.7% in 2026, 1.6% in 2027 and 1.3% in 2028, according to its interim forecast of September 2026. It forecasts inflation of 2.4% in 2026, falling to 1.4% in 2027 and 1.8% in 2028, and an unemployment rate of 10.4% in 2026, 9.8% in 2027 and 9.0% in 2028.
The bank says exports and investment are driving growth and that the forecast is more positive than its June forecast. It describes higher energy prices linked to the Middle East conflict as a temporary push on inflation. The forecast is based on data available on 10 September 2026, and the bank's previous forecast was published in June.
How are Finland's exports doing?
The volume of Finnish exports of goods and services grew by 5.7% in April to June 2026 from the previous quarter, according to Statistics Finland's quarterly national accounts. Statistics Finland notes, citing Finnish Customs, that a large ship delivery raised goods exports in the quarter, but that growth was also visible more widely. Imports grew 2.2%.
Finnish Customs publishes the monthly value of goods trade, by product and by country, on its statistics pages; those pages could not be read by our checker on 15 October 2026. Export volumes in the national accounts include services and are adjusted for price changes, so they differ from the Customs value figures.
