Cuba: public finances
3 answers, 2 from Cuba's own official bodies, with a link to each figure.
What is Cuba's budget deficit?
No official budget deficit figure for Cuba could be read on 15 October 2026. The state budget and its outturn are published by the Ministry of Finance and Prices and approved by the National Assembly, and ONEI reports budget execution in its Statistical Yearbook, but none of these sites responded to our check.
Cuba is not a member of the IMF, so the IMF's World Economic Outlook, the usual international source for deficits and debt, carries no Cuban data. The World Bank's central government debt series is also empty for Cuba.
How much does Cuba spend on its military?
Cuba's military spending was 2.9% of GDP in 2018, the latest year in the World Bank series, which uses SIPRI estimates. It was 3.1% in 2016.
No later figure is published in the series because the underlying budget data are incomplete. The estimate is based on Cuba's reported defence and internal order spending. Cuba's state budget, which would show defence allocations, is published by the Ministry of Finance and Prices, whose site did not respond to our check.
