Is there an official house price index in Bangladesh?
No official house price index was found on the sites of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics or the Finance Division, checked on 15 October 2026. The Bangladesh Bank site showed an automated-visitor check and could not be read.
BBS publishes related price measures: a house rent index and a building materials price index, listed on its price and wage statistics page, and the housing, water, electricity and gas group of the consumer price index, which rose 9.81% in the year to September 2026, according to the September 2026 CPI release. Asking prices on property websites are not official statistics.
How fast are housing costs rising in Bangladesh?
The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group of Bangladesh's consumer price index was 9.81% higher in September 2026 than a year earlier, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics monthly CPI release for September 2026. That was above headline inflation of 8.34%.
The group combines rent, utilities and household fuel, so higher electricity and gas tariffs push it up as well as rents. BBS also publishes a separate quarterly house rent index, the latest covering July to September 2026, on its price and wage statistics page. The index tracks price changes and does not give average rent levels for any city.

76.0% of households in Bangladesh lived in a main house with a tin (corrugated iron) roof in 2022, and 22.3% under a brick or cement roof, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2022.
