Federal Reserve: interest rates, FOMC decisions and financial data
The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System publishes the Federal Open Market Committee's interest-rate decisions, statements and minutes, and statistical releases on interest rates (H.15), exchange rates (H.10), consumer credit (G.19) and the Financial Accounts of the United States (Z.1). Its Data Download Program serves these series as CSV. Fact-checkers use it for claims about interest rates, the dollar and household debt.

When it publishes
The FOMC meets eight times a year; statements are released on the second day of each meeting and minutes about three weeks later. H.15 is daily, H.10 weekly, G.19 monthly and Z.1 quarterly.
How to use it to check a claim
- Quote the target range (for example 3.75% to 4.00%) and the date it took effect.
- Distinguish the target range from the effective federal funds rate published in H.15.
- For reasons behind a decision, read the FOMC statement and minutes rather than inferring from the rate.
Common mistakes
- The Fed's 2% inflation goal is for PCE prices (BEA), not CPI.
- Mortgage rates are not set by the Fed and track longer-term Treasury yields more closely than the fed funds rate.
