What is the inflation rate in Turkey?

Annual consumer price inflation in Turkey was 29.73% in September 2026, down from 31.51% in August, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) figures listed by the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye on its consumer prices page. Prices rose 1.84% in the month. The CPI now uses 2025 as its base year (2025=100).

TurkStat publishes the CPI on the third day of each month for the previous month, together with the domestic producer price index. Year-on-year inflation compares prices with the same month a year earlier. The central bank publishes its own inflation report and forecasts, which are separate from the TurkStat figures. Monthly rates are not seasonally adjusted in the headline series, so compare months with the same month in earlier years.

What is the population of Turkey?

Turkey's population was 85,878,556 in 2025, according to the World Bank's World Development Indicators.

The national figure comes from TurkStat's Address Based Population Registration System (ADNKS), a register of everyone resident in Turkey at their address, including foreign nationals with residence permits. TurkStat publishes results once a year for 31 December, with breakdowns by province, district, age and sex; its pages could not be read automatically on 13 October 2026, so its latest total is not quoted here. Because the register is updated continuously, Turkey does not run a traditional door-to-door census. The World Bank's mid-year estimate uses a different reference date and method.

What is Turkey's GDP?

Turkey's GDP was US$1.597 trillion in 2025 at current prices, according to the World Bank's World Development Indicators, and real GDP grew by 3.7% in 2025, according to the IMF's World Economic Outlook database.

TurkStat publishes quarterly GDP about two months after each quarter, in chain-linked volume terms and at current prices, with year-on-year and seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter growth. With high inflation, GDP in current lira grows much faster than real output, so always check whether a growth figure is real or nominal. The dollar value also depends on the lira exchange rate.

What is the interest rate in Turkey?

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye's one-week repo rate, its policy rate, was 37.00% on 13 October 2026, according to the bank's 1-week repo rate history. The last change listed was on 23 January 2026, from 38.00%. That was the fifth cut since 25 July 2025, down from 46.00%, the level set on 18 April 2025.

The Monetary Policy Committee sets the rate at scheduled meetings and publishes a summary of each decision. The central bank also sets an overnight lending and borrowing corridor around the policy rate. Banks' loan and deposit rates are reported weekly in the bank's Electronic Data Delivery System (EVDS).

What is the minimum wage in Turkey in 2026?

The gross minimum wage for 1 January to 31 December 2026 is 1,101 lira a day, according to the Minimum Wage Determination Commission's decision of 23 December 2025, published in the Official Gazette (Resmî Gazete No. 33119) on 26 December 2025. On a 30-day month that is 33,030 lira gross. The decision sets a single national rate and took effect on 1 January 2026.

The amount is gross: employee social security and unemployment insurance contributions are deducted, so take-home pay is lower. The decision was taken without the workers' representatives, who did not attend the meeting. The Commission also recommended continuing a 1,270-lira monthly employer subsidy during 2026.

What is the unemployment rate in Turkey?

The IMF's World Economic Outlook database gives Turkey's unemployment rate as 8.3% in 2025, and the World Bank's modelled ILO estimate is 8.5% for the same year.

The national figure is TurkStat's monthly Labour Force Statistics, published with seasonally adjusted unemployment, youth unemployment and a broader measure of labour underutilisation; TurkStat's pages could not be read automatically on 13 October 2026, so the latest monthly rate is not quoted here. The underutilisation rate, which adds people working fewer hours than they want and people available but not searching, is much higher than the headline unemployment rate.

What is Turkey's GDP per capita?

Turkey's GDP per person was US$18,599.44 in 2025, according to the World Bank's World Development Indicators. It divides GDP at current prices, converted to dollars at market exchange rates, by the mid-year population.

With high inflation and a falling lira, the dollar figure can rise even when the lira loses value, because domestic prices rise faster than the exchange rate falls. TurkStat publishes its own per-capita GDP in lira and dollars with the annual national accounts. For comparing living standards, the World Bank's purchasing-power-parity series is a better guide.

How much have house prices risen in Turkey?

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye publishes the monthly Residential Property Price Index (RPPI), based on bank valuation reports for mortgage lending, with national, Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir series. The index is available in the bank's Electronic Data Delivery System (EVDS); it could not be read automatically on 13 October 2026, so no figure is quoted here.

The RPPI measures valuations, not completed sale prices. Annual rises in lira are high partly because of general inflation, so compare them with CPI inflation of 29.73% in September 2026, reported on the bank's consumer prices page, to see the real change. TurkStat separately publishes monthly house sales counts by province and buyer nationality.

What are the income tax rates in Turkey?

Turkey's personal income tax is progressive, with brackets set out in Article 103 of the Income Tax Law and updated each year for inflation. The current brackets are published by the Revenue Administration (Gelir İdaresi Başkanlığı), and the law itself is on the Legislation Information System. The 2026 brackets could not be read automatically on 13 October 2026, so they are not quoted here.

Minimum-wage income is exempt from income tax, and employees also pay social security contributions, which are not part of income tax. Check the year of the tariff, since thresholds change every January.

How much debt does Turkey have?

General government gross debt was 23.7% of GDP in 2025, according to the IMF's World Economic Outlook database, which marks recent years as estimates.

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance publishes the central government debt stock monthly and the EU-defined general government debt quarterly, in lira and by currency. A large share of the debt is in foreign currencies or linked to them, so falls in the lira raise the lira value of the debt. Debt-to-GDP ratios also depend on nominal GDP, which inflation pushes up quickly.

What is the life expectancy in Turkey?

Life expectancy at birth in Turkey was 77.4 years in 2024, according to the World Bank's World Development Indicators.

TurkStat publishes its own life tables every year, with life expectancy at birth and at older ages for men and women, calculated from the population register and death statistics. Life expectancy at birth summarises death rates at every age in one year; it is not a forecast for a baby born today. Comparisons between years should use the same source, since TurkStat and the World Bank estimate differently.

What is the birth rate in Turkey?

Turkey's total fertility rate was 1.48 births per woman in 2024, according to the World Bank's World Development Indicators, below the replacement level of about 2.1. The crude birth rate was 11 births per 1,000 people.

TurkStat publishes annual Birth Statistics from the population register, with live births, the fertility rate by province and the mother's age at birth. Fertility differs widely between provinces, so the national average hides large regional gaps.

What is the poverty rate in Turkey?

The World Bank's World Development Indicators give a poverty rate of 13% at Turkey's national poverty line for 2024.

TurkStat's annual Income and Living Conditions Survey measures relative poverty as the share of people living below a set percentage of median equivalised household income, and also reports severe material and social deprivation. Relative poverty lines move with median income, so the rate measures inequality at the bottom of the distribution as much as hardship, and results depend on which threshold (50% or 60% of the median) is used.

How many members are in the Turkish parliament?

The Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) publishes the list of current members by province and party, with the current distribution of seats; the page could not be read automatically on 13 October 2026, so no count is quoted here.

The number of seats is fixed by the Constitution, but the number of sitting members and the party totals change between elections because of resignations, deaths and members switching parties. Election results themselves are declared by the Supreme Election Council (YSK). For the seats won at an election, use the YSK's declared results; for the current balance, use the TBMM's live distribution.
