The largest by population is Espace Mittelland with 1,962,040 people (21.7% of the total); the smallest is Ticino with 358,903. Who governs Switzerland's statistical regions?

Cantons (26): Elected cantonal parliament and directly elected government. Own constitutions, police, schools, hospitals, taxes; they decide how communes are organised.
