Regions of Rwanda: population and official figures

Rwanda is divided into 5 regions. The largest by population is Eastern Province with 4,044,312 people (28.1% of the total); the smallest is City of Kigali with 2,065,183. Population figures are National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda projections for 2026, built on the 2022 census. Each province page adds poverty, housing, schooling and health insurance from the EICV7 household survey (2023/24), jobs and earnings from the 2025 Labour Force Survey, and child and maternal health from the 2025 Rwanda Demographic and Health Survey.
