This EU measure counts people in any of three groups: those with income below 60% of the national median after social transfers, those who cannot afford several basic items (severe material and social deprivation), and those in households where adults work very little. The survey year usually refers to the previous year's income. Statistics Portugal publishes the national results of the same survey.
