When it publishes
CPI is published monthly and GDP quarterly; NBS posts a data release calendar on its website.
How to use it to check a claim
- Check whether an inflation figure uses the rebased (2024=100) CPI or the old series.
- For unemployment, check whether the figure uses the post-2023 ILO-based method.
- Quote the quarter for GDP and note that NBS growth rates are year on year.
Common mistakes
- Rebasing of CPI and GDP created breaks in the series.
- Old labour force reports used a different definition of employment, giving much higher unemployment rates.
Where do I find Nigeria's latest inflation rate?
On the NBS home page and in its monthly CPI report; the CBN inflation page carries the same figure.
