What is the GDP growth rate of the Netherlands?

Dutch GDP grew by 0.6% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter, according to the second estimate from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), published on 23 September 2026. The first estimate, released on 30 July, had put growth at 0.4%. CBS says the upward revision came mainly from stronger exports, particularly of services, and a larger rise in household consumption. The number of employed and self-employed people rose by 15 thousand on the quarter.

The figure is a seasonally adjusted, quarter-on-quarter volume change, so it is not annualised as in the US. CBS publishes the first estimate about 30 days after a quarter ends and the second about 85 days after, and both can be revised again later.

What is the inflation rate in the Netherlands?

Consumer prices in the Netherlands were 3.4% higher in September 2026 than a year earlier, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), up from 3.3% in August. CBS says higher motor fuel prices pushed the rate up. Prices rose 0.1% between August and September, and the final figure matched the flash estimate published on 2 October.

This is the national consumer price index (CPI). CBS also publishes the harmonised index (HICP), which Eurostat uses to compare euro area countries, and the two can differ by a few tenths. CBS notes that inflation in the euro area as a whole was higher than in the Netherlands in September.

Official sources: CBS: Inflation increases to 3.4 percent in September

How much are Dutch exports growing?

The volume of goods exported by the Netherlands was 4.9% higher in August 2026 than in August 2025, adjusted for working days, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Companies exported more machinery in particular, and more transport equipment. Export growth was 2.3% in July. Goods imports rose 2.0% in August, mainly machinery and electronic products.

These are volume figures, so price changes are removed; they cover goods only, not services. A large share of Dutch exports are re-exports, goods imported and sent on with little processing, which CBS counts separately in its trade tables on StatLine.

Official sources: CBS: Exports up by nearly 5 percent in August

Is household spending rising in the Netherlands?

Households in the Netherlands spent 2.1% more on goods and services in August 2026 than a year earlier, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS). They bought more goods in particular, and spending on services also rose. In July, consumption grew by 1.2%.

The figures are volumes, adjusted for price changes and for differences in the number of shopping days. CBS also publishes a consumption radar, which it says showed conditions for household spending slightly less favourable in September than in August. Household consumption is the largest spending component of GDP, so the monthly figures are an early signal for the quarterly GDP estimate.

Official sources: CBS: Household consumption up by over 2 percent in August

What is the interest rate in the Netherlands?

The Netherlands uses the euro, so its policy interest rates are set by the European Central Bank. From 16 September 2026 the deposit facility rate is 2.50%, the main refinancing operations rate 2.65% and the marginal lending facility rate 2.90%. The previous change, on 17 June 2026, had raised the deposit rate from 2.00% to 2.25%.

The deposit facility rate is the one the ECB uses to steer monetary policy. De Nederlandsche Bank, the Dutch central bank, takes part in the ECB's decisions but does not set a separate national rate. Mortgage and savings rates offered by Dutch banks follow these rates with a lag.
