What is Nauru's GDP?
Nauru's GDP was A$320 million in the 2024–25 financial year (July to June), and real GDP grew by 2.6%, after 0.8% in 2023–24, according to the Nauru Bureau of Statistics' GDP release for 2024–25 (8 June 2026). Gross national income was A$435 million.
GNI is higher than GDP because Nauru earns large primary income from abroad, mainly foreign fishing licences and fees for hosting the Regional Processing Centre; net primary income was A$115 million, 36% of GDP. The release says government and state-owned enterprises account for around 90% of GDP. Growth in 2024–25 came mainly from finance and business services (up 29%), manufacturing (21%) and utilities (18%). These are preliminary estimates.
Is Nauru a high-income country?
Nauru is preparing to graduate to high-income country status in January 2027, according to the Department of Finance's 2026–27 Budget Paper No. 1. The paper says this follows the current high-revenue environment and links it to a need to invest in human capital and productive infrastructure.
The paper's risk table describes Nauru's scheduled graduation to high-income status under the OECD Development Assistance Committee list, which affects its eligibility for official development assistance. Nauru's GNI of A$435 million in 2024–25, as published by the Nauru Bureau of Statistics, is well above its GDP because of fishing licence and processing centre income.
