Japan company search: corporate numbers, gBizINFO and the commercial register

Every company registered in Japan has a 13-digit corporate number assigned by the National Tax Agency, which publishes the number, name and registered address of each corporation on its Corporate Number Publication Site. gBizINFO, run by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, links that number to government subsidies, procurement, certifications and awards. Full commercial registration records are kept by Legal Affairs Bureaus under the Ministry of Justice.

When it publishes

The corporate number site updates on business days as registrations change. gBizINFO refreshes source data from ministries on varying schedules.

How to use it to check a claim

  1. Confirm a company exists and its official name by searching its corporate number.
  2. Use the change history to check when a company changed name or address.
  3. For directors and capital, obtain a registration certificate; the corporate number site does not show them.

Common mistakes
