What is Guyana's GDP growth rate?
Guyana's economy is estimated to have grown by 19.3% in 2025, with the non-oil economy growing 14.3%, according to the Budget Speech 2026 from the Ministry of Finance, delivered on 26 January 2026. The same document projects 16.2% overall growth and 10.8% non-oil growth for 2026.
For the first half of 2026, the Bank of Guyana Half Year Report estimates real oil GDP growth of 33.3% and non-oil growth of 10.1%. Guyana reports oil and non-oil growth separately because oil output, which started in 2019, swings the headline rate; growth was 63.3% in 2022 and 43.8% in 2024. The Bureau of Statistics publishes the official GDP series.
What is the inflation rate in Guyana?
Consumer prices in Georgetown were 3.6% higher in August 2026 than a year earlier, according to the Bureau of Statistics. Prices fell 0.2% from July to August, mainly because food prices dropped 0.5%. The 12-month period average inflation rate was 3.5%.
Over the year, the largest increases were in miscellaneous goods and services (6.6%), food (4.4%) and transport and communication (4.1%). The index covers Georgetown only. The Bank of Guyana's half-year report gives year-to-date inflation of 4.4% at the end of June 2026, which measures change since December rather than over 12 months.
How much oil does Guyana produce?
Guyana produced 163.3 million barrels of crude oil in the first half of 2026, up 41.1% from 115.7 million a year earlier, according to the Bank of Guyana Half Year Report 2026. Average output was about 902,000 barrels a day, compared with 639,000 in the same period of 2025.
The bank attributes the rise to a full half-year of output from the One Guyana floating production vessel at the Yellowtail development, which started in August 2025 and added about 250,000 barrels a day of capacity. It puts total installed capacity across four production vessels at more than 900,000 barrels a day. Oil revenue paid to the state goes into the Natural Resource Fund, which the bank manages.
What is the Guyana dollar exchange rate?
The Bank of Guyana mid-rate for official transactions stayed unchanged at G$208.50 per US dollar in the first half of 2026, according to the bank's Half Year Report 2026. Total foreign exchange market transactions rose 0.9% to US$11,687.1 million in that period.
The official mid-rate is used for government and central bank transactions. Cambios and banks set their own buying and selling rates around it, and the bank posts daily rates on its homepage. The Bureau of Statistics also publishes monthly average mid-rates going back to 2006.
What is Guyana's balance of payments?
Guyana's overall balance of payments recorded a deficit of US$293.9 million in the first half of 2026, compared with a surplus of US$10.3 million a year earlier, according to the Bank of Guyana Half Year Report 2026. The current account had a surplus of US$3,340.3 million, but the capital account deficit of US$3,624.7 million was larger.
The bank explains that the capital account deficit mainly reflects oil revenue moved into the Natural Resource Fund, which is held abroad, and oil companies recovering their costs. So a deficit here does not mean Guyana earned less from trade; the current account surplus came from higher crude oil and gold exports and lower imports.
