What is the inflation rate in The Gambia?
Inflation was 6.5% in August 2026, according to the Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBoS). The overall consumer price index stood at 185.54 (January 2020 = 100). The Central Bank of The Gambia's August 2026 MPC statement reports that the rate was 7.0% in July, 7.6% in June and 7.5% in May.
The rate compares prices with the same month a year earlier. It remains above the central bank's implicit target of 5%. The bank attributes the easing since June to lower food price pressure, while non-food inflation, driven by transport costs, rose to 8.9% in July. GBoS publishes a CPI release every month, and the central bank keeps the full monthly series on its current inflation rate page.
What is the Central Bank of The Gambia policy rate?
The Monetary Policy Rate is 14%, according to the Central Bank of The Gambia. The Monetary Policy Committee kept it unchanged at its meeting on 19 and 20 August 2026, as it had in May.
The committee also held the reserve requirement for commercial banks at 13%, the standing deposit facility rate at 5% and the standing lending facility at 15%, one point above the policy rate. It said a cautious stance was needed because underlying inflation and transport costs remained high, even as headline inflation eased. The policy rate is a signal for short-term rates. Treasury bill yields, which banks and savers actually earn, ranged from 4.0% on 91-day bills to 14.8% on 364-day bills in June 2026. The next decision is due on 26 November 2026, according to the MPC page.
