Why are prices rising in the Bahamas?

The Central Bank of The Bahamas said average inflation of 2.7% in the 12 months to June 2026 came from higher costs for imported fuel and other goods and services, in its Monthly Economic and Financial Developments for August 2026. Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels rose 3.1%, transport 2.0% and health care 3.6%.

The Bahamas imports all of its fuel and much of its food, the Prime Minister noted in his fiscal outturn statement, so world prices pass through quickly. The Central Bank expects inflation pressure to stay high because of higher fuel and import prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
