How much is council tax in Scotland?

Each of Scotland's 32 councils sets its own Band D council tax every year. The Scottish Government publishes the rates for every council and band, the average bill per dwelling and the Band D series back to 1996-97 in its council tax datasets, including 2026-27.

Scotland has eight bands, A to H, based on property values at 1 April 1991. Water and sewerage charges from Scottish Water are collected with the council tax bill. Collection rates and council tax reduction figures are in the local government finance statistics.

Band D is a standard measure, not a typical bill, and English and Welsh figures use different bands and valuation dates, so cross-border comparisons need care. For England, see council tax increases.
