Wythenshawe and Sale East by-election 2014: result
The Wythenshawe and Sale East by-election was held on 13 February 2014. Michael Kane (Labour) won with 13,261 votes, 55.3% of the valid vote, a majority of 8,960 over John Bickley (UK Independence Party).
The House of Commons Library describes the result as: “Labour hold by Michael Kane with a majority of 8,960”.
At the general election of 6 May 2010, Paul Goggins (Labour) won the seat with 44.1% of the vote; the same party held it at the by-election.
Turnout was 28.2% of the 85,058 electorate, lower than the 51.0% at that general election.
The largest change in a party's share since the general election was for Liberal Democrat, down 17.4 percentage points.
