How deprived is my area?
In England, enter your postcode in the government's Local Deprivation Explorer to see where your neighbourhood ranks in the English Indices of Deprivation 2025, published by MHCLG on 30 October 2025. It ranks all 33,755 small areas, each with about 1,500 residents, from 1 (most deprived) to 33,755 (least deprived), and gives the decile.
The Index of Multiple Deprivation combines seven domains: income and employment (22.5% each), education and health (13.5% each), and crime, barriers to housing and services, and living environment (9.3% each). The statistical release names the most deprived neighbourhood as part of the Jaywick and St Osyth area of Tendring.
Ranks are relative: an area ranked 100th is not twice as deprived as one ranked 200th, and not everyone in a deprived area is deprived. New data and methods mean the 2025 ranks are less comparable with 2019, and English ranks cannot be compared with Scotland's SIMD.
