How many people claim PIP?
DWP publishes Personal Independence Payment statistics quarterly, covering new claims, clearances, awards, the main disabling condition and the number of people receiving it. The data is for England and Wales; Scotland has replaced PIP with Adult Disability Payment, which Social Security Scotland reports.
For trends, compare claims in payment over time in Stat-Xplore and check whether a claim counts new awards or everyone receiving the benefit.

- Economic inactivityPeople who are not in work and not looking for or available for work, such as students, carers, retired people and those who are long-term sick.
- ILO unemploymentThe internationally agreed definition of unemployment: people without a job who have looked for work in the past four weeks and can start within two weeks.
- Rolling averageAn average recalculated each period over a fixed window, such as the latest three months or twelve months, to smooth out short-term ups and downs.
