Being a Town Councillor involves far more than simply attending meetings. Councillors play an active role in representing the community, listening to residents’ views, identifying local priorities, and helping to shape projects and services within the town. Councillors work together as a team to make decisions on a wide range of matters, including budgeting, finance, asset management, staff oversight, and project delivery. While the Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer provide professional advice and administrative support, all decisions are made collectively by the Council as a whole. Councillors are expected to attend meetings they are summoned to and to uphold high standards of conduct. All Councillors sign a Declaration of Acceptance of Office, agree to follow the Code of Conduct, and complete a Register of Members’ Interests held by Cotswold District Council. Ordinary local elections take place every four years, with the next scheduled for May 2027. If vacancies arise between elections, they may be filled by election or co-option. If you are interested in becoming a Councillor or would like to find out more, please contact the Clerk on 01608 651448 or email clerk@moretoninmarshtowncouncil.gov.uk Brennan Guise Councillor I was co-opted to Moreton-in-Marsh Town Council on 28th April 2026 and am proud to serve the community.
