I worked in Biological Sciences on projects including David Attenborough’s Wildlife on One series, focusing on foxes at Hollywood Towers, later the Bristol Zoo project. I was known for clarity, leadership, competence and mischievous humour, often writing poems for colleagues — one was used in a Head of Department’s eulogy. After nineteen years in Biological Sciences, I ran the Vet School, implementing drastic, lasting impact with full director support. Each morning before work I helped people worldwide with dog‑behaviour problems online. I was later headhunted for a pivotal role at Deakin University in Australia — an amazing opportunity — but my roots are the village, and I couldn’t break them. After 26 years at Bristol University leaving to support my family, home‑educate my daughter, and train our dog to assistance level, whilst remaining connected to this village. After leaving school I helped build the cycle track from Pill to Bristol, and later repaired the Bitton to Bath section. I’ve worked in a range of practical roles including engineering, waste services, delivery driving, car valeting, security supervision at Eastville Stadium, and supervising cleaning teams. My favourite job was at the University of Bristol halls of residence, where I supported students who were overwhelmed, and dealt firmly and diligently with noise complaints, mischief and disruption. I received written thanks from the wardens when I left, the only member of staff to do so. I later worked as a bailiff, often helping people understand and prioritise their finances rather than make things harder for them. My wife’s family, and certainly mine, go back generations in Pill. I bring history, common sense, reliability and experience to this parish. Ward : Pill Committees : Planning Working Groups : Open Spaces.
