The Council provides a local point of contact for residents seeking advice, information or guidance on matters affecting the parish. Where possible, the Council will seek to assist directly. Matters that fall outside its responsibilities may be referred to the relevant authority, including Cornwall Council. The Parish Council also has responsibilities for a number of important community assets. These include holding the deeds to Budock Water Village Hall and Treverva Village Hall, which are administered as charitable trusts, and the Children’s Playing Field in Budock Water. The Council is also responsible for maintaining the network of public footpaths and bridleways throughout the parish. Council Meetings: The Parish Council meets at 7.00 pm on the last Monday of each month, except August and December. Meetings are normally held at Budock Village Hall, with some meetings taking place at Treverva Village Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings and take an interest in local matters. Your participation and views are an important part of community life Meet the people who serve our parish: John Bastin Chair of Budock Parish Council Email: john.bastin@budockparish.gov.uk I have a lifelong connection to the parish and many years of experience in local government. I was born and bred in Budock and went to school here, but I left for around 20 years to study and work in London. When I returned, I wanted to reconnect with the community I had grown up in. Getting involved felt like coming full circle. My great-grandfather and grandmother had both served on the Council, so there was a bit of a family tradition behind it too! My first involvement in the community was through the carnival committee, which was a very big deal at the time. I was later invited to join the Parish Council, and after a couple of years, I became Chair. I went on to serve on the Parish Council for 20 years before becoming a councillor on Cornwall Council, where I served for 15 years. For most of that time, I continued to serve on the Parish Council too. Over the years, I've dealt with pretty much everything. I've chaired the Falmouth and Penryn Community Area Partnership for 15 years and also chaired the Health and Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee. I'm still involved in local healthcare today as Vice-Chair of the Falmouth Hospital Friends. Two issues that particularly concern me are climate change and food security. I feel we are already very late in taking action on climate change, and we need to address it as quickly as possible.Food security is equally close to my heart. I strongly believe we must protect our agricultural land, especially here in Budock Parish. We have excellent farmland, and it would be a real shame to lose it to further development. My top priority is to preserve Budock's identity and protect what makes our parish special. I want Budock to retain its distinctive character and remain a place where people feel connected to its history, its surroundings and the community they are part of. Kerry Bailey Councillor of Budock Parish Council Philip Burnett Councillor of Budock Parish Council David Chatterjee Councillor of Budock Parish Council Nigel Hennell Councillor of Budock Parish Council Email: nigel.hennell@budockparish.gov.uk Nigel Hennell, Budock Parish Councillor I retired from the Royal Navy, after 35 years of service, in 2003 and have lived in Treverva for many years. I first became interested in the work of the Parish Council after submitting a planning application and attending a meeting to follow up on the discussion around it. The experience gave me a better understanding of the Council’s role and made me realise that I wanted to stay informed and have a say in matters affecting the local area. That’s what led me to become a councillor. This is my third time serving on a council. Alongside my role on the Budock Parish Council, I’m also involved with Treverva Village Hall and take part in the local Speedwatch scheme. Planning is my main area of interest. I want to help preserve the rural character of Treverva and Lamanva and ensure that development is appropriate for the area. I also believe that the existing infrastructure is not sufficient to support further development. If you want to have your say and contribute to local affairs, joining the Parish Council is a good way to get involved and have an input into decisions that affect the local area.
