The Town Council consists of 9 members, and elections are held every four years in May, to coincide with the District Council elections for North Lincolnshire Council. Brigg Town Councillors serve in an entirely voluntary capacity and, although mileage allowances can be claimed by members who represent the Town Council out of the Town, no other allowances are paid other than the Town Mayor’s Allowance. The Chairman of the Town Council is also the Town Mayor, and he/she is elected by members of the Town Council at the Council Annual Meeting held each year in May. The Mayor for 2026-2027 is Cllr Penny Smith, elected on 20th May 2026 at the Annual Meeting of Brigg Town Council. Cllr Smith said “I am proud and honoured to be elected mayor of Brigg it is a great privilege and responsibility and I commit myself to serving the people of Brigg to the best of my ability. This year my chosen charities are Oikos and Lindsey Lodge Hospice, both very worthy charities who are very dear to my heart.” The Town Council is extremely active in response to all issues relating to Brigg, and its future as a thriving town and community. Full Council Meetings are usually held on the fourth Tuesday of every month, at 7.15pm in the Angel Suite Ballroom. The council also has a number of standing committees that meet at other times during the month.( see Schedule of Meeting dates ). For all meetings - the Agenda of Business to be Transacted is posted on the Town Council Website. The Town Council Office is in Room S04 The Angel, Market Place, Brigg. The Council Office is open on a Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30 - 2.30pm (closed from 12.30pm-1pm) but at all other times please call 07584 315971 or email clerk@briggtowncouncil.gov.uk The Town Clerk and members of the Town Council are always willing to assist parishioners if it is within the power of the Town Council to do so. If, for any reason, they cannot help, they will often be able to re-direct you to the relevant organisation that can. Please do not hesitate to make use of your elected representatives. The Annual Town Public Meeting for Parishioners is held between 1st March - 1st June. This meeting is chaired by the Town Mayor, and provides the opportunity for parishioners to raise issues, and gain clarification on matters relating to the Town.
