Ben Currington Vice Chair of Council After serving one term already as a councillor I have seen first hand the potential the community council has to nurture our community and improve our local area. I love spending time in Delapre Wood and going to our local parkrun, at the University of Northampton. I am interested in road safety, active travel, play areas, engagement, green spaces, sustainability and environment. I am a member of the Neighbourhood plan steering group, the events and entertainment working group and the wellbeing working group. I'd like to see calmer vehicle traffic, better routes for walking and cycling, more places for children to play. I want people to feel ownership of what the council does, pride in what it achieves, and a sense of what they can do to help in their community Expand Full Bio Address Delapre Abbey London Road Northampton NN4 8AW Mobile 01604906077 Email clerk@farcottonanddelapre-cc.gov.uk Cllr. John Bright "I enjoy living in Far Cotton and Delapre for its variety of wildlife. I can often be found taking photographs whether it's along the canal, river or at Delapre Park and Woods. If you see me out and about, please say hello! In 2016 myself and Cllr. Jill Harris set up the 'HMO Action Group - Far Cotton' as we were concerned about the increase in Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs) due to the university relocating here. Cllr. Harris and I also started 'Far Cotton Litter Pickers' in 2018. We hold monthly community litter picks in the area which anyone is welcome to join." Cllr Bright is a member of the planning committee, the Staffing working group, the In Bloom working group and the Neighbourhood Planning steering group. Jay Nicks "I chose to live in in Far Cotton over 6 years ago after living in different areas of Northampton. I was always attracted to the area by the flowers in bloom, the Rec Centre and general feel of the community. I've worked in children's services for over 20 years and want to make our community happier, safer and crime free through being considerate to our neighbours and I hope we can achieve this all together." Cllr Nicks is a member of the In Bloom working group, the Wellbeing working group and the Events and Entertainment working group. John Pettitt "I was born and raised in Far Cotton and have lived at my current address in Far Cotton since 1987. Since retiring at the end of 2021, I wanted to contribute to the community in a practical way and was very pleased to become a Community Councillor. I've seen many changes in the area over the last sixty years, but it has always remained very community based, which I would work to see continue into the future." Cllr Pettitt is a member of the Planning Committee. Expand Full Bio Address Delapre Abbey, Delapre Park London Road Northampton Telephone 01604906077 Cllr. Robert Parkinson Since May 2025 I am looking forward to my first term as a community councillor, working with colleagues to support and develop the Far Cotton and Delapre community. I've recently moved to live off Rothersthorpe Road and am keen to get to hear about what's important to my neighbourhood. I worked for many years in the transport department of the council, so I bring an interest in highways, licensing and development. I want to see the main roads through our community made safer, better management of HMOs, and ensure Far Cotton and Delapre's voice is heard at West Northants Council about the ongoing challenges of the proposed Ransome Road development. I am a member of the University of Northampton Community liaison committee on behalf of the Community Council, and I am part of the Staffing working group and planning committee. I'm also going to join the Speed Awareness team, in conjunction with Northamptonshire Police, to help reduce dangerous driving on our roads. I would seriously like to see traffic manangement and road networks in general looked at in our area, most prominently Queen Eleanor Interchange. This will involve close cooperation and dialogue with West Northants Council and, where necessary, Northamptonshire Police. I am also a Scout Leader and know how important youth groups are to community cohesion and young people's development. I'd like to use my role as a community councillor to champion local groups where possible. Expand Full Bio Cllr.
