Following graduation, I moved to London to advance my career in the Television Broadcasting industry. My professional journey includes a two-year period working in Sydney before returning to the UK. My wife and I settled in Jersey Farm, St Albans, thirteen years ago, where we have raised our two children. I am a long-term employee of ITV in the Commercial team. Outside of work, I am actively involved in the local community. I enjoy coaching the Under 13 Girls at Harvesters and stay active by playing football, Pickle Ball, and Paddle Ball. I also appreciate regular walks through Sandridge’s beautiful open spaces, often planning my next travel adventures during these times. As a newly appointed member of the Parish Council, I am eager to learn and contribute to our local community, to make a positive and lasting impact. I joined some Neighbourhood Plan working groups back in 2014 and stayed involved till the Plan was passed by referendum in 2021. I was particularly interested in sustainable travel issues including traffic congestion, local bus services and walking, cycling and recreational travel. Linked with these concerns, I was also a longstanding member of the Parish Environmental Assets and Paths (PEAP) Committee until my election as a Parish Councillor, with a particular interest in preserving public rights of way. I hope to be able to use some of this experience in the interests of local residents in my time on the Parish Council. In my spare time, I am a keen gardener, enjoy walking and wine tasting. Committees: Human Resources Committee, The Committee for Sustainability, Planning Committee Carol Chalkley Carol Chalkley Register of Interests Contact Address 44 Barfield Road, St Albans, AL49UU Phone 07974 651459 Email carolchalkley@hotmail.com Bio I am a newly appointed Councillor for Sandridge Parish and have lived in the area for over 40 years and love it. Before retiring I worked in a school for 11 years and then became self employed doing book keeping and garden design and maintenance. I now help maintain the Community garden at the Quadrant and volunteer at the Wick Nature Reserve and am involved with Jersey Farm Woodland Park. One of my ambitions as a Councillor is to get more trees planted in our grass verges. Away from the Parish I do various volunteer roles at the Olympic Park, The Globe, The Tower of London and Saracens Rugby. This allows me to get out and about meeting new people and give support to these great places. Committees: Jersey Farm Woodland Park Management Committee, The Committee for Sustainability, Sports and Recreation Ground Committee John Hale John Hale Register of Interests Contact Address 37 Chandlers Road St Albans, AL4 9RT Phone 01727 837371 Email jshale@btinternet.com Bio I have lived in Marshalswick for over 25 years. I used to commute into London on a regular basis, cycling to the station most days. In 2016 I ceased commuting and in 2017 was elected as County Councillor for the division of Colney Heath and Marshalswick. The division covers most of the parish. I am a member of the Liberal Democrats. I have been a Parish Councillor since 2007 and have served as Chair of the Parish Council at various times since. My main interests relate to the environment. I am a keen gardener, when time permits; an advocate for planting trees in our neighbourhood and for reducing air pollution. I continue to cycle and walk whenever possible. I campaign against further expansion of London Luton Airport and chair St Albans Quieter Skies. I have been an active volunteer in many community organisations over the years and am currently involved in my son’s grassroots football club, as a club safeguarding officer, and a local residents association, in addition to being a parish councillor. Giving back to my community is really important to me and I will always ensure, we as a parish council, do the best for our local community. Committees: Human Resources Committee, The Committee for Sustainability Michael White Michael White Register of Interests Contact Address 316 The Ridgeway, St Albans, AL4 9RJ Phone 07531 424060 Email mike.j.white@hotmail.co.uk Bio I am a retired gentleman and I have lived and made my home in Marshalswick, St Albans since 2017. I have strong ties to the area and I felt I would like to contribute to my local community by representing people on the council and assisting the council in the execution of its duties and in supporting progressive ideas for the benefit of all. My background; before retirement; was working as a mathematician, in my early years, followed by many years researching in the Gas and Telecommunications industries. I worked in advisory and Managerial roles; with responsibility for technical projects, budgets and people. My spare time was consumed with a passion of Alpine skiing, hiking and playing sports; Tennis, Squash and football. Alas, most of these high energy pastimes have retired with me and I am now a passive observer, a mere spectator. However, a good walk around the surrounding countryside of St Albans is still a pleasure to enjoy. I have an interest in people and the effects of their surroundings on their wellbeing; I have a strong sense of fair play. I love the Green Spaces of St Albans and the surrounding countryside. I also work as a volunteer in the local community garden in Marshalswick. Committees: Sports & Recreation Ground Committee, Jersey Farm Woodland Park Management Committee, Planning Committee Jersey Farm Ward James Lambert James Lambert Register of Interests Contact Address 12 Beverley Gardens, St Albans, AL4 9BJ Phone 07813 161825 Email cllrjlambert@gmail.com Bio I grew up in the South of England, mostly in Kent. My wife and I met in 2009 before moving to Jersey Farm in 2014. We moved primarily for my work, which is based over in Ware, although since the pandemic, working from home on multiple days a week means that I do still spend a chunk of the working week in the Parish. We have three young children, all now attending our brilliant local schools, and the latest addition to our family is Penny the Puggle, who adores being taken for walks in the wonderful green spaces that we are lucky enough to have here on our doorstep. Both inside and outside of work, I have a keen interest in all things sustainability, and to relax, I enjoy playing with our children as well as going to gigs, both comedy and music. Having only recently joined the Parish Council, I’m still very much learning the ropes, but I hope to be able to make some positive contributions to our Parish, particularly as regards the local playgrounds and topics relating to sustainability. It’s great to be able to learn from some of the more experienced members of the Council, and at the same time, it feels good being part of the new influx of Councillors who are all as excited as I am to make an impact. Committees: Finance Committee, The Committee for Sustainability, Sports & Recreation Ground Committee Maurice Wells Maurice Wells Register of Interests Contact Address 16 Beverley Gardens, Jersey Farm, St Albans, AL4 9BY Phone 07592 871315 Email mauricejwells@gmail.com Bio As a lifelong resident of the area, I am keen to improve the green spaces within the Sandridge Parish Council, and support the enhancement of the facilities that the Council provides. My personal interests include walking, cycle touring, campervanning and travelling abroad. I also enjoy DIY projects, using the skills I learnt as an apprentice from a long time ago. I am married with 3 adult children, having retired from my career in telecoms during which I gained an MBA through part-time study. Committees: Jersey Farm Woodland Park Management Committee,The Committee for Sustainability Bryn Jenkins Bryn Jenkins Register of Interests Email bocjenkins@gmail.com Bio I have lived in Sandridge Parish since 2012 and I've always had a passion for the local area. I have always loved the many green spaces we have in the parish and I want to see those spaces continue to flourish. As the council's newest and youngest member I aim to bring a new perspective to council decisions to help the council to continue to serve residents as best it can. Beech Bottom Ward Anne Thomas Anne Thomas Register of Interests Bio I have lived in the Parish of Sandridge for over 35 years. During this time my corporate career as a Sales Director in the contract catering sector was all consuming. Then retirement six years ago presented the opportunity to really pursue my passions for horticulture, conservation and travel. Subsequently I have attained a RHS Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture and for 4 years I was a weekly volunteer at Earthworks St Albans - an eco-garden offering horticulture experience for adults with learning difficulties. I have also been very fortunate to undertake several volunteering trips to South Africa game reserves assisting to monitor endangered species. Currently I am Wilder School volunteer for Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. This involves visiting participating schools to advise on how they can make their schools more biodiverse. I am a volunteer for Sandridge Parish Council, helping to maintain the open spaces across the parish and for the last two years I was also a public member of the Jersey Farm Woodland Park Committee. I have come to really value all aspects of parish life, and I am hoping now that becoming a member of Parish Council will provide me with lots of further opportunities to positively impact on the wider aspects of the Council’s work across our community.
