I served 30 years with Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, retiring at the rank of Chief Inspector. Having lived in the village for 25 years and having more spare time, I decided that now is the right time to become a Councillor. I am particularly keen on planning matters and it is opportune that we are about to be involved in a significant consultation period. I will be Chairing a Local Plan Consultation Steering Group. Further details will be published shortly. You can be reassured that my decision making will be transparent and fair and I will do my utmost to bring some added value to the Council. I am also a volunteer, supporting a local homeless charity and Foodbank. My passion however, is supporting those affected by Domestic Abuse, having worked worked in this area for many years. If I can be of assistance to you then please feel free to contact me by email jane.taylor@teignbridge.gov.uk or via the PC Clerk. I moved to the village in 2000, taking care of my late parents in Kingsteignton, worked in Interventional Radiology at Torbay hospital for 16 years and joined KKPC in June 2015. In 2017 I was asked to join the original steering committee of 3 that grew to getting Kerswella up and running – starting with Memory Cafe – and I continue my involvement and support of Kerswella. Back in the ’00’s as part of the then History Group I was involved with and contributed to the Halsgrove book of Kingskerswell, and I enjoyed playing witches, fairies, queens etc in the village pantomime for many years. Most recently my long held goal of getting Youth Services provision in the village has been realised. My objective of joining KKPC is enhancing the value of our village life for all ages. To encourage efforts to sustain and support us all in the increasingly fast paced, demanding world, where traditional NHS and social schemes and services are stretched and life is ever more cosmopolitan, technical and isolated. Living in different countries and States, with family and friends far flung, I’ve a deep appreciation of how thriving communities pull together to the betterment of all. Having trained and worked in the NHS before living in pre EU Belgium, then the USA for 17 years, afforded many experiences, professional, volunteer and recreational. In London I specialised in Health Visiting and in Emergency care. In Arizona hiking in the stunning Sabino Canyon and Grand Canyon, deserts, giant cacti, petrified forest, glorious scenery. In Colorado climbing 14,000 foot mountains, back country hiking and camping in the Colorado Rockies, sliding on St Mary’s Glacier, cross country ski-ing from our back door, pioneering State Parks keeping their car parks open through the winter snow months and to allow cross country ski-ing on the snow covered trails, sitting on the state advisory board for licenced nurse education, training as a Naturalist and setting up programs at Roxborough State Park, and so much more. As an officer of our Homeowners Association I helped get the 1st curbside recycling in the SW USA off the ground in the ’80’s – a big deal at the time. In nursing I specialized in cardiac high dependency and was an Assistant Director of Nursing and Education Director at a 270 bedded teaching hospital. The ’90’s found me in Virginia and working at a National Park next to the CIA, teaching Colonial history, traditional skills farming and songs, straw bale and cob building, organising festivals, performing, participating in the Children of Chenobil project, studying and designing alternative eco building methods on and off grid, and a great deal more. I’ve directed, produced and performed at the JF Kennedy Centre, had a residency at the Maryland Renaisance Festival and participated in twice annual family away day retreats for senators, congresmen and diplomats through the ’90’s. I was a medical officer at the Park and had a small practice. I strive to champion Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, Accessability, Well-ness, Sustainability, Recycling and Re-purposing, Community and enjoyment of nature and the great outdoors, wherever possible. One of the many things Covid has highlighted is the number of people in our community who are not able to access all things on-line and who are therefore increasingly becoming sidelined and out of the loop as society’s momentum drives towards increasing need for being connected on-line.
