I am a retired healthcare professional, I joined the Parish Council In 2017, becoming chair in 2021. I became a councillor in the hopes of encouraging a broader representation of the views of the village as a whole, not just those on the council. Whilst Cresswell has much history to enjoy it is important to move with the times and the current council has pushed through initiatives to improve communication within the village with a quarterly newsletter and a Facebook page. Email: [email protected] Cllr Drew Laing - Vice Chair Email: [email protected] Cllr Chris Haworth Email: [email protected] I have spent my whole working life in education initially as a specialist design teacher in secondary schools. My career progressed and I have worked in a leadership capacity in a number of schools across greater Manchester during my career. During 2016 / 2017 I decided to retire from teaching to become my father in laws primary carer. This required focussed dedication to an individual and providing daily support to allow him to live a full life within the confines of reduced mobility and the onset of Parkinsons. The onset of Covid changed everybody’s life and I wanted to help and support others in my locality. I volunteered for the NHS Good SAM role Initially to support and provide stewardship for Covid vaccinations. Now, five years on, I have continued to support this initiative for the benefit of my new community and beyond offering to collect shopping and medications from Pharmacies alongside the regular telephone calls. I moved to Northumberland in august 2021 and fell in love with both the area and also the welcoming nature of the people. Some of which I can now humbly say are my close friends. It was very much like coming home! In discussion with a local councillor I was invited to join the NCEA school’s trust as a governor for one of their special schools. I was swiftly invited to become the Chair of Governors for the school and still hold this position. The opportunity to support my local special school is a privilege and an honour I hope to continue to live up to. During 2024 I took the decision to apply for Cresswell Parish Council. The village is small but I want all our residents to have a voice, feel listened to. I have thrown myself into this role and look forward to the opportunities it will bring as my experience grows. Cllr Malcolm Burn I'm a local lad, well travelled, happy and proud to call Cresswell home! Local government experience and previously your parish clerk, I've joined the PC as a Cllr with a strong commitment to supporting the wellbeing of this community, maintaining its character and protecting our environment. Email: [email protected] Cllr Nigel Thompson I have proudly called Cresswell home for over 30 years and have developed strong connections in the community both personally and professionally. Alongside my family we have successfully run a local business for the same length of time, which has contributed to the area's employment, growth and wellbeing. My deep care for Cresswell drives my passion to do even more for the village, its residents and the wider community. Outside of work I love spending time outdoors, walking and exploring, a bit of bird watching and making the most of the natural beauty surrounding us. I enjoy a variety of sports, with a particular passion for football and rugby." Email: [email protected] Cllr David Thompson Born and raised in Cresswell, I’ve been proud to call this beautiful seaside village home for all 28 years of my life. I recently joined the parish council with a strong commitment to preserving the character of our community while helping it grow in thoughtful, sustainable ways. I’m passionate about keeping Cresswell a welcoming, vibrant place for everyone.
