Cllr Phillip Ward Chairman of Great Oldbury Parish Council Great Oldbury Parish Council Chairman of the Parish Council, Lead Councillor for Highways Issues and Social Media and Publications. My desires for being a councillor my aims are: Short term ( in year) :Develop GOPC. Raise awareness of the GOPC its role, abilities and limitations. Transition the community centre from Council Owned-Contractor maintained to fully Council maintained. Enable a community centre that support regular events to help the community, bringing innovation and ideas (such as parcel lockers) to bring in additional revenue and offset Council expenditure whilst offering community benefits. Support adoption of wider community areas of play. Establish inter-council agreements for shared resources/contracts to reduce costs. Operational issues: -Engage with Local Developers on GOD spine road adoption. I would like to see road markings (double yellows) for parking areas, junctions etc to protect pedestrians and provide visbility and accessibility to road users. As the Community grows, provisions for decorations, (e.g. festive lights etc) should be procured and electrical connections made to provide year on year enjoyment to the community. Longer term, I feel a war memorial for Great Oldbury to enable a fitting remembrance of The Fallen. Strategic issues: -Liaise with GCC and SDC for effective use of designated Local Community land.- schooling (secondary) issues and lack of spaces- comment and review Outline Planning for further developers within GO boundary - and hold to account existing plans! Be aware of neighbouring planning development that would impact GO - eg expansions by GO in land west of Stonehouse into GO. Pursue the Council to adopt the public area greens / lands that are proposed to be passed to a management company and taking responsibility as the Council, removing this burden from homeowners Responsibilities: Chairman Lead Councillor - Strategic Planning/ Neighbourhood Planning Lead Email phillipward@greatoldbury-pc.gov.uk Register of Members Interests Cllr Phillip Ward ( PDF , 397 Kb) Register of Members Interests Cllr Phillip Ward Chairmans Annual Report April 2025 ( PDF , 2.6 Mb) Chairmans Annual Report April 2025 Chairmans Annual Report 2026 ( PDF , 87 Kb) Cllr Andrew Deighton Parish Councillor Great Oldbury Parish Council I moved to Great Oldbury in November 2020, at the height of COVID and all that went with it. I have been living in England since 1997, when we moved from South Africa, and have for a while thought that I should be more involved with the local community. Now that we have settled in what we hope is our "forever home" it is time to become involved and to do some work for the benefit of the community. Since moving to Great Oldbury I have attended the monthly Great Oldbury Community Group meetings in order to keep involved, and the Parish Council, as a formal body, appealed as the next step to a higher level of involvement. I work from home, so I am almost always around and have some flexibility to be able to devote time to the Parish Council. While I'm new to the village, I've lived within the district for the past 18 years and have developed a deep connection to the area. As a passionate advocate for positive change, I consider myself a youth champion and am committed to creating a community where everyone feels included, valued, and heard. My focus has always been on equality, inclusion, and diversity, ensuring that all voices are represented and that everyone has an opportunity to thrive. In my professional life, I specialise in road safety, and this has shaped my belief that a safe community is the foundation of a thriving one. I prioritise the safety and well-being of all residents, especially our younger ones and those with additional needs, who are often most vulnerable. As a parish councillor, my goal is to work alongside residents to make Great Oldbury a place that is not only safe and sustainable but also accessible to everyone. From improving road safety to ensuring inclusive access to local services and spaces, I am committed to helping create a community where everyone feels safe, welcome, and empowered to live their best lives. My wife and I were looking for a more rural lifestyle, and we now see Great Oldbury as our "forever home" after moving 11 times over the years. For the past 38 years, I have run my own business in financial services, which has grown into a family business involving both my wife and son. Earlier in life, I was heavily involved in sport and played professionally for over 12 years before injuries brought that chapter to an early end. Since then, I have spent more than 35 years supporting my two very sporting sons, both in the UK and abroad. I continue to enjoy watching sport at all levels and regularly attend local football and cricket matches. Now that I have more spare time, I would like to contribute positively to the community we are proud to call home. I have a particular interest in youth sport and the facilities that support young people. I also care deeply about the local area and believe that any contribution I can make to the community would be both worthwhile and rewarding. My career spread over many years has been diverse, people-focused career, combining organisation, communication and community engagement across several sectors. I immersed myself into communities where I lived, joining charitable organisations which were community lead along with helping families affected by disaster. I am community focused, a strong communicator and, above all, someone who genuinely cares about people. Believing strong communities are built through listening, involvement and practical support, and would be proud to serve the residents of Great Oldbury as a Parish Councillor.
