John Bamber Chairman Personal Statement Crick is a fantastic place to live and be part of and it has been a privilege for me to serve as a Parish Councillor in Crick for the last 4 years. Crick has so much going for it for residents of all ages, and so many well-run organisations operating within it. The playing field, the sports centre, the village hall, the old school, the woodlands, the allotments, and the pre-school, to name just a few. How many other villages can boast all of that? To my mind, there is only one reason why anyone should want to be a Parish Councillor, and that is to do their bit to make Crick an even better, safer and happier place to live. That is my motivation. I can't promise that every decision I support will be universally popular, but I can promise that every decision I support will be carefully thought through, and will, to be the best of my ability be the right decision for the village. Biography I joined the Parish Council in 2021 having moved to Crick with my partner Jane in 2019. I am also a committee member of the Ex-Servicemen's Club and the Playing Field Association. Originally from Lancashire, I moved to the East Midlands in 2008 and lived in Pailton, working as General Manager at the nearby BT Distribution Centre at Magna Park. In 2010, I left my job and spent 10 months in Africa travelling across the continent working as a volunteer teacher and business advisor, primarily based in Zanzibar. On my return, I moved to Crick and worked for 2 companies as a self-employed project manager working on the development and implementation of various NHS projects throughout the UK. I now work in the IT sector at University Hospitals, Coventry & Warwickshire at Walsgrave. My partner and I (we are to be married on 3rd May 2025) have family in the village including 3 grandchildren. It is vitally important to me that we come together as a community to protect and enhance this wonderful village of ours for the benefit of future generations. Julia Potts Vice Chair/Councillor Personal Statement Julia has lived with her family in Crick for 30 years, and raised her two children here. She has been involved in village life throughout this time. She is currently the Chair of Crick Woodlands and the Community First Responder for Crick, volunteering her time to support East Midlands Ambulance in responding to incidents in Crick and surrounding villages. Julia assisted establishing and running the Crick Scout section before establishing a Young Explorers section for older scouts (14 to 18yrs). She has previously been involved with St Margaret's Church and was a member of the Parochial Church Council, taking services when the village had no vicar, and organising the Nativity services at a local farm. As a member of the Drama group for several years, Julia enjoyed mixing with village residents from different backgrounds and age groups. She was on the Drama group committee, and also performed in many varied productions. Julia was also a previous committee member of the Village Hall. Professionally, Julia served as a Police officer for 30yrs and is now retired. She transferred to Northamptonshire Police from Warwickshire Police in 2005, and served as an Inspector and Chief Inspector within Northamptonshire for 15 years. During this time she performed many roles, both in uniform and as a detective. Julia currently works part-time on an ad-hoc basis for a number of local schools. Her passions are dog walking and horse riding and she is keen to see the village remain a vibrant community with facilities for all age groups to enjoy. Barry Croft Councillor Personal Statement I am delighted to have been elected, many thanks to all those who voted for me. I will do my best to represent this lovely village of Crick and all its residents. Email barry.croft@crickparishcouncil.gov.uk Cllr. Mairi Chapman Councillor Personal Statement Mairi has lived in Crick since 2017 and joined the Parish Council in 2021. She has three daughters all under the age of 14, who are involved in local clubs and also attended the village Primary School. Mairi started volunteering for the local Scout group as a leader in 2019 and recently helped to create the Explorer Scout section for 14-17 year olds in 2023. Mairi's main passion and career is centred around dogs, she has been a dog trainer for 12 years and is passionate about canine behaviour and nutrition. Alongside her husband they own two local businesses, both are dog-focussed and are based in Crick. Mairi believes in volunteering for good, to help the community and give time to people and projects that matter, which is why she decided to join the Parish Council. Simon Goodchild Councillor Personal Statement Simon has lived in Crick since 2002, along with his wife and later on with the addition of two wonderful children. Both children have attended Crick Primary School, and he has a keen interest in facilities within the village for children and young people. Simon has worked in IT all of his professional life, first in software development and most recently IT management for a large supermarket chain. In addition to an obvious interest in technology, Simon is a keen DIY-er, and renovating a period property has provided plenty of opportunity to try his hand at most things. Along with his family, Simon enjoys walks around the village and local countryside, with maybe a stop at a hostelry along the way. Less popular with the family, he also plays drums in a local band! When the opportunity arose to serve the village community as part of the Parish Council, Simon was keen to step up and help. He hopes that his efforts can help improve village life for all its residents. Expand Full Bio Telephone 01788 823672 Mobile 07581 503574 Email simon.goodchild@crickparishcouncil.gov.uk Cllr. Mark Miller Councillor Personal Statement I've lived in the village for 25 years now and have been involved with several community groups over that period including Village Hall Committee, Neighbourhood Planning Group and Crick and West Haddon tennis Club of which I am currently chair. Prior to moving to Crick, I was a member of Moulton (Cheshire) PC for a number of years, two of which were as Chairman so although some years ago now, I do have past experience of PC matters. I also worked for the Department of Transport for a number of years and spent most of my career in building and civil engineering roles which may also prove to be of benefit to the council and parish. Expand Full Bio Cllr. Christine Walsh Councillor Personal Statement Christine moved to Crick with her husband in 1996. Professionally Christine is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and after working for many years as a consultant, she moved into agriculture, predominantly the meat industry. Recently she moved to working part time as Chief Executive of the Food and Drink Training and Education Council (FTC). FTC is a charity that works to secure and promote the provision of training within the food industry. It mainly does this through promotion and development of vocational training and apprenticeships. Her children were born and raised in Crick. Whilst they were young, she was Chairman of Crick Preschool and with her committee they developed the growth strategy, taking the preschool (open 3 mornings per week) and putting it on the road to where it is now. Her husband and 2 sons are keen footballers and were very involved with the football club in Crick. She played hockey for Long Buckby Hockey club and provided coaching for 7-14 year old for many years. She recently became a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Butchers. In her spare time, she has been helping a farmer with his flock of sheep; she enjoys walking, skiing and swimming. Christine wants Crick to continue to be a friendly and kind village continuing its proud tradition of delivering improvements by its residents for all its residents. Jacqueline Smith Councillor Personal Statement I live with my husband Glen in the 300-year-old house that has been his family home for almost half a century. We have witnessed many changes and improvements to Crick since we moved into the house 20 years ago when Glen's parents retired.A "sense of place" and being made to feel at home is an essential part of my own wellbeing, and I hope to bring this focus to my role as a parish councillor. I believe this is what we all have in common, regardless of age or background. Everyone who comes home to Crick matters, whether you spend the day at school, work or out in the community; and whether you are new to the area, have been here for decades, or have local roots that stretch back generations. I work part-time for a property management company. I am a keen gardener and enjoy researching local history and spending time with our three granddaughters who live close by. I have been a member of Crick parish church's Parochial Church Council for the last three years and help the active team of church fund-raisers support lunches, teas, plant fairs and, of course, the annual contribution of St Margaret's to the busy Crick Scarecrow weekend, all of which bring much-needed income to church finances. My key areas of interest are the preservation and improvement of community facilities, and the input of the parish council to planning and development issues in Crick. My own family had a busy construction and property business in a nearby Leicestershire and I grew up listening to my father discussing business with clients and tenants, making preparations for planning and building projects, and dealing with contractors and tradespeople. Later my marketing career gave me wide experience in managing the expectations of both business-to-business and business-to-public relationships. However, my parents, regardless of how busy they were, always had time not only for us, but for extended family and the wider community. They instilled in me from a very young age the understanding that life is not all about business; each of us also has a duty to improve the environment for others and to bring generosity of spirit to the community we live in. I try to bring those principles to my responsibilities as a parish councillor. Email jacqueline.smith@crickparishcouncil.gov.uk Cllr. Edward Greenaway Councillor Personal Statement I have lived in Crick since I was born, raised in the village, starting at Crick Primary School and then moving on to different schools. I have been part of the Scouts group as a child before moving onto the Young Farmers organisation. Through Young Farmers, I have hosted many charity events for the village including the fireworks displays in previous years. I have always had strong ties with the village through family being previous councillors, (R.H.Atterbury being my grandfather). From helping with distribution of election brochures at a young age, to helping out locals with problems, I've always been involved where possible with the village. Expand Full Bio Email edward.greenaway@crickparishcouncil.gov.uk Cllr. Brendan Ward Councillor After moving from the nearby village of Catthorpe, my wife and I settled into Crick in 2021 for what is planned as our final move, I also decided to retire and spend a little more time doing the things in life I enjoy namely a bit more golf a lot more travel and more time with my family. We chose Crick to be closer to family and because we recognised the fantastic amenities this village has to offer. Prior to my retirement, I spent most of my working life managing major projects within the communications industry, spanning multiple sectors from Highways, Rail, Power Stations to both onshore and offshore Oil and Gas projects. I am confident that the skills and experience I gained globally can be put to great use supporting our local area. Having attended several Parish Council meetings this past year, I decided to apply for the vacant position following the resignation of one of our longest-standing members. While I am not trying to fill the boots of my predecessor (way too big a challenge) I have the time, energy, and dedication to give something positive back in term of supporting the local community and the beautiful village we have the privilege to live in.
