Councillors are normally elected for a term of four years – the last election was held on 5th May 2023 and is for a term of 4 years. The next election will be held May 2027. Each May the Parish Council hold an Annual Parish Meeting where the Parish Council reports back to residents on the previous year. Thereafter the Parish Council holds the Annual Meeting of the Council, at which the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Council are elected for the next twelve month period. At the Annual Parish Council Meeting, the Parish Council also confirm the Council's governance arrangements. Where a vacancy occurs for a councillor, it may be filled by either an Election or Co-option. Elections only occur if, following the advertisement of the vacancy for 14 days, 10 Electors send a written request to the Returning Officer. If no request is received, the Parish Council can fill the vacancy by Co-option. Darrington Parish Council has adopted a Code of Conduct to promote and maintain high standards of behaviour by councillors whenever they conduct the business of the Council. This Code of Conduct is based on the principles of selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership.
