{"analytics_identifier":null,"base_path":"/government/news/new-logos-for-registered-online-veterinary-medicine-retailers","content_id":"b7148a67-3845-460c-a976-309da3d946f5","description":"GB and NI online retailers of veterinary medicines will need to use two separate logos to verify that they are registered with the VMD.","details":{"attachments":[],"body":"<div class=\"govspeak\"><p>Online retailers of veterinary medicines in Great Britain and Northern Ireland are being reminded to check their registration details and ensure they display the correct logo on their websites.</p>\n\n<p>We have written to these retailers and provided instructions on how to display these logos on their website. The logos differ between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Retailers should check which arrangements apply to their business and take the necessary action.</p>\n\n<p>The new logos replace the previous voluntary Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) and will make it easier for customers to identify registered online retailers and check their details on the VMD register. This will help customers make informed purchasing decisions and maintain confidence in the legitimate supply of veterinary medicines.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"requirements-for-retailers-in-great-britain\">Requirements for retailers in Great Britain </h2>\n\n<p>The Veterinary Medicines Directorate’s Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) ended on 30 October 2026. The AIRS register has been removed from the VMD website, and the AIRS logo is no longer be valid.</p>\n\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n  <p>Businesses should replace the AIRS logo with the new VMD Registered Online Retailer logo.</p>\n</div>\n\n<p>Any website intending to sell veterinary medicines that must be supplied by a Registered Qualified Professional (RQP) must be registered with the VMD. Retailers must also make the following information available on every part of the website where veterinary medicines are offered for sale:</p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>the statement “Registered Online Retailer of Veterinary Medicines”.</li>\n  <li>the statement “If you have a query about the veterinary medicine purchased online you can contact the Veterinary Medicines Directorate using their <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/guidance/contact-vmd\">online form</a>.”</li>\n  <li>a link to the VMD Register of Online Retailers</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p>The new logo links directly to the VMD register, allowing customers to confirm that a retailer is registered and find information about contacting the VMD.</p>\n\n<p>Retailers are strongly encouraged to display the logo prominently in the website footer so that it appears on every page. Its design retains familiar elements of the AIRS branding to help customers identify legitimate and appropriately registered retailers.</p>\n\n<h2 id=\"requirements-for-retailers-in-northern-ireland\">Requirements for retailers in Northern Ireland</h2>\n\n<p>Under the Windsor Framework, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2019/6/oj/eng\">Regulation (EU) 2019/6</a> applies in Northern Ireland. Businesses established in Northern Ireland intending to sell veterinary medicinal products that must be supplied by a Registered Qualified Professional (RQP) must be registered with the VMD before making online sales.    </p>\n\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n  <p>Registered retailers in Northern Ireland must display the Northern Ireland common logo on every webpage where veterinary medicinal products are offered for sale.</p>\n</div>\n\n<h2 id=\"access-to-the-logo\">Access to the logo</h2>\n\n<p>We have written to all GB and NI online retailers of veterinary medicines about this change and shared the appropriate logos.</p>\n\n<p>If you require access to this logo and have not received an email from us or have any questions, please <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/guidance/contact-vmd\">contact us.</a></p>\n\n<h2 id=\"action-for-all-online-retailers\">Action for all online retailers</h2>\n\n<p>Businesses operating in Great Britain or Northern Ireland should:</p>\n\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n  <ol>\n    <li>Check that their business and every website used to sell veterinary medicines are registered with the VMD.</li>\n    <li>Tell the VMD promptly if their business or website details have changed.</li>\n    <li>Display the correct logo for the market in which they are established.</li>\n    <li>Make sure the logo links to the VMD Register of Online Retailers.</li>\n    <li>Test the logo and link on desktop and mobile versions of their website.</li>\n  </ol>\n</div>\n\n<p>Businesses with more than one website must ensure that each website is included in the registration details held by the VMD.</p>\n\n<p>Retailers can register online at <a href=\"https://www.gov.uk/guidance/sell-veterinary-medicines-on-the-internet#register-online\">GOV.UK</a>.
